The Aprilia RSV 1000R is a high performance exotic Italian superbike that is not for the inexperienced.

Post 2004 you have two models the base model - RSV 1000R and the tricked up model - the RSV 1000R Factory.

It's power plant is a 998cc V-twin engine that produces a substantial 143bhp, 76ft lb of torque and a top speed of over 170mph.

On the track it is a phenomenal bike as is to be expected and on the road it suffers from the usual gripes and niggles which affect all supersport bikes - limited comfort, hard suspension for imperfect back roads, poor vision through the mirrors.

However, this is the price you pay for any sportbike and with the usual niggles put to one side the Aprilia RSV1000R is an outstanding bike with plenty of low down torque, a strong mid-range and a stonking top end all of which the chassis connects to the pavement admirably and the brakes are well up to the task of controlling the speeds it is capable of.

It is the cheapest 1000cc V-twin super sport motorcycle on the market under-cutting other European exotic bikes like the Ducati 999, although as always you will find that the Japanese equivalents can be had for a better deal.

With that said, Japanese bikes generally lack the soul and character of these European exotics and if you want an immensely powerful and challenging bike that is both unique and beautiful and less than other European equivalents a second hand RSV 1000R should be near or at the top of your shopping list.
