The BMW R1100GS is a great all-around bike with strong performance. It is geared for the rider who likes to ride for fun and the serious touring rider.

It does not come with saddlebags, but you can get modular plastic bags that are custom fitted for the 1100GS.

The rear seat is removable, and there is a rack underneath so you can strap down more “touring gear.” The rider’s seat is adjustable from 33.1 inches to 33.9 inches.

The torquey, air/oil-cooled engine was re-tuned to give it more mid-range punch. It is a horizontally opposed engine with four valves per cylinder in the typical boxer style and puts out 80bhp at 6,750 rpm and 71.6 foot pounds of torque at 5,250 rpm.

The frame is a three-piece frame. The front suspension is BMW’s Telelever suspension system and the rear is the Paralever system. The rear suspension is adjustable for riding comfort while touring or tearing up the dirt trails.

The brakes are ABS (or may be ABS II, depending on the country the bike was built for), and the rider has the ability to turn the ABS off for off-road riding. The front brakes provide stopping power via twin four-piston Brembo calipers and twin 12-inch floating discs. The rear brakes consist of a single two-piston Brembo floating caliper and a single 10.9-inch disc.

The BMW R1100GS is a heavy bike, but is very well-balanced and maneuverable – it even has off-road ability. The front brake lever and the handlebars are adjustable. The front cowling is also adjustable (within 13 degrees).
