Ducati Monsters - Reviews And Classifieds
"The motorcycle that saved Ducati".
This is the honour often bestowed on the Ducati Monster line which gave a struggling company a new lease of life.
The Monster line began in 1993 with the Monster 900 and was designed by Miguel Angel Galluzzi. It was defined as a naked bike with a less aggressive riding position than the traditional Ducati sportbike but with it's own unique flair that made it both recogniseable as a Ducati and also a hit. Soon after came the Monster 600 and then the Monster 750 in 1996.
The concept remained the same through the first decade of production and it wasn't until 2000 that Ducati added fuel injection to the original 900 model.
In 2001, the S4 was introduced - a much more powerful and aggressive Monster which used the liquid cooled 4 valve Ducati superbike engine and then after the more track orientated and higher spec S4R.
Fast forward 12 years from the original release of the 900and in 2005 Ducati Monster sales accounted for over half of Ducati's worldwide sales.
It's proved itslef as a motorcycle for all types of riders - the smaller models providing a great entry level Ducati for new riders, commuters and women while the larger more powerful S2R and S4R drawing talented enthusiasts who enjoy the raw power and classic styling of this beautiful motorcycle.
