The Harley-Davidson Sportster 883 is a custom cruiser. It is made mostly for the rider who likes to cruise the bike shows and bars, or ride short distances to work. While it has a double seat, riding two-up is not the most comfortable for the passenger.

The air-cooled v-twin has an engine displacement of 883 cubic centimeters (thus this sportster’s name), which is about 53.88 cubic inches, for those who think in American measurement terms. It puts out about 53 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 49.4 foot pounds of torque at 4,400 rpm. It is fed by a carburetor, which gets it fuel from a 3.3-gallon fuel tank. It is all backed by a five-speed transmission and a final belt drive.

The front suspension has 6.9 inches of travel, and the rear has only 3.6 inches of travel. It does tend to bottom out on the harder bumps if a heavier rider is on, and will definitely bottom out with a passenger, even if both are on the slim side. The front and rear brakes use a single 11.5-inch rotor for stopping power. Not the best for stopping on a dime, so be careful of those panic stops.

The Harley-Davidson Sportster 883’s low seat is only 28 inches. Some bikes have adjustable seats, and if so, this would be the lowest setting. The top speed for this bike is 104.4 miles per hour. It’s a nice looking bike, though the stock version could do with some nice chromed out upgrades.
