The Harley Davidson Electra Glide is a touring bike made for long distance tours. It is geared for the rider who likes to take long trips, and is quite comfortable for both rider and passenger.

The seat is narrowed at the front, allowing the rider’s feet to reach straight to the ground, instead of bowing out. The footboards are rubber mounted, and further isolates the v-twin vibration, which has already been long isolated in Harleys.

There is plenty of storage for gear, including a pair of lower leg protecters that have a small storage bin under the snap-on covers. The trunk, which opens to the side, has a built in back rest for the passenger.

The engine is Harley’s signature 45 degree v-twin with two valves per cylinder. The Harley Davidson Electra Glide has had a couple different size engines – in 1984, it was an 80 cubic-inch Evolution engine. It had an 88 cubic-inch engine, and the newer engines are 96 cubic inches – a torquey, stroked engine, rather than a revver. In 2006, the 88-inch twin-cam engine made 65 horsepower at 5,700 rpm with 67.4 foot pounds of torque at 3,800 rpm. The newer engines have 62.4 horsepower at 5,200 rpm, but has 77.8 foot pounds of torque at 3,600 rpm.

The Electra Glide has a 26-degree rake, which gives the bike quick steering, but it does have some cornering limitations due to the cornering clearance (the sidestand and footboards drag in sharp corners). It has three four-piston brake calipers to give excellent stopping power for the heavy touring bike. It also has ABS brakes. The rear suspension is adjustable up to 20 to 25 psi, if needed.

The Harley Davidson Electra Glide sits the rider up behind an instrument panel with a speedometer, tachometer, fuel gauge, voltmeter and an ambient temperature gauge. It also has a Harman/Kardon 80-watt audio system, which includes an AM/FM radio, weatherband, CB, intercom and four speakers. There is also a power outlet for electric clothing and other electrical accessories.
