Honda made some special additions to their early bare Goldwings and labeled them the 'Interstate'. The Honda Goldwing Interstates often had 'Limited Edition' stamped in various spots on their bodies, windbreaks, mirrors and such. Some had etched designs in the glass. There was an eagle head on the side view mirrors, and little touches like that. They were often available in special paint colors and designs but best of all they had all the trimmings. The Interstates still came with the great power and comfort everyone expected from the Goldwings and a whole lot more.

The Interstates were the fully loaded ultra-tricked out super tour bikes that people eventually fell so in love with that Honda began to simply make their Goldwings from the 1800 up 'Interstate' types all the way and left the 'bare' touring bike behind until a much later seeming demand for the old style surfaced and they came up with the Valkyrie. The Valkyries were a curious mix of the 'Interstate' and the bare touring bikes of the early Goldwing years because they didn't completely eliminate all of the flairings and gadgets like radios and such but they weren't the full-blown all out loaded up Goldwings that later models were either. The Valkyries didn't hang on long as the actual demand wasn't as big as thought, the ultimate touring bike—the Interstate won out.
