Bike Profile
The KTM EXC 450 is an enduro/off-road bike that is street legal. It has a brake light and turn signals. The left rear turn signal needs to be redesigned, as it tends to catch the rider’s boot – and when that happens – no more turn signal. Many people were converting dirt bikes to combination bikes, so KTM followed suit with their EXC 450. It is street legal in all 50 states. The mirror also tends to get in the way when standing up to ride, and needs to be moved out of the way, which limits its usefulness on the street. The bike is designed for the dirt junkie who needs to hit the street once in a while. The four-stroke engine is 27.42 cubic inches crammed into one cylinder. It has four valves for that one cylinder and it is fed by a Keihin MX FCR 39 carburetor. The ignition uses Kokusan digital, and the bike is a kick start. It is liquid cooled. This is backed by a six-speed transmission with a chain transferring the power to the wheel. The transmission uses a wet, multi-disc hydraulic clutch.
The front suspension uses the WP-USD 48mm forks and has 11.8 inches of travel. The rear suspension uses a WP monoshock and has 13.2 inches of travel. The front and rear brakes use a single disc.
The KTM EXC 450 weighs in at 250.2 pounds. The seat height is 37.8 inches. If your particular model has an adjustable seat, that is the lowest setting. It has a ground clearance of 15 inches. The frame is a central double-cradle-type 25CrMo4 frame. The rake is 26.5 degrees. The fuel tank holds 2.38 gallons of gas.
