Bike Profile
The KTM SX 450 is a powerful enduro/offroad bike for the serious racer. With the 2007 upgrades to the chassis and suspension, a great bike is even greater. This bike is for the rider who wants to make an impression in the MX1, and coupled with the rider’s skill, makes for a winning combination.A Keihin MX FCR 41 carburetor feeds the 27.42 (449.30 ccm) cubic inches that is crammed into one cylinder. The single cylinder has four valves to get the air in and out. The engine is liquid cooled, which does add some weight to the bike, but lets the rider get more out of riding and less worrying about overheating in longer races. The power to transferred to the ground via a four-speed transmission with a wet, multi-disc hydraulic clutch and a final chain drive.
The front suspension uses the WP USD forks, giving the rider 11.8 inches of travel. The rear uses the WP monoshock PDS which has 13.2 inches of travel. Both front and rear brakes use a single disc, but this bike has plenty of stopping power. The front disc is 10.2 inches and the rear measures in at 8.7 inches.
The bike weights in at 230.6 pounds (newer models weight in at 235 pounds) dry and has a ground clearance of 15 inches. The seat height is 37.8 inches, and if the seat is adjustable, this would be the lowest setting. All this is sits on (or in) a central double-cradle-type 25 CrMo4 frame with a rake of 26.5 degrees. The exhaust is aluminum, which helps with the lightness of the bike. It holds 2.17 gallons of fuel.
Comparison bikes are the 2006 Honda FMX 650, 2006 Suzuki DR 650 SE, 2006 Yamaha WR 450 F and the 2006 Yamaha WF 450 F 2-Trac.
