Bike Profile
The KTM RC8 is a sport bike – KTM finally moved from the realm of dirt bikes into the super bike world – and unsurprisingly, met more than its expectations. This bike is for the rider who wants an aggressive bike and can handle an aggressive bike in turns and on straightaways. Though it doesn’t come with bungee hooks or anything else to suggest touring, it has enough aftermarket parts out there to turn this sport bike into a tourer. This liquid-cooled, four-stoke twin cylinder engine now has 70.05 (1148.00 ccm) cubic inches. It puts out 152 (110.6 kW) horse power at 10000 rpm and 88.5 (120.00 Nm) foot pounds of torque at 8000 rpm. It is backed by a six-speed transmission with a wet, multi-disc hydraulic clutch. This bike revs 1,000 rpm higher than the 990 engine.
The front suspension uses the WP-USD 43mm forks and the rear uses the WP-monoshock. Brakes are by Brembo, and the front sports a double 12.6-inch disc, while the back uses a single 8.7-inch disc.
The KTM RC8 weighs in at 414.5 pounds (dry) with a ground clearance of a mere 4.3 inches. The seat height is 31.7 inches, and if adjustable, this is the lowest setting. The frame is a powder coated chromoly trellis frame with a 23.3-degree rake. The exhaust is stainless steel with an underfloor muffler and regulated catalytic converter. The fuel tank only holds 4.36 gallons, but still gives you a while before having to stop for fuel.
Comparison bikes are the 2007 Honda CBR 1000 RR Fireblade, 2007 Yamaha FJR 1300 AS, the 2007 Ducati Superbike 1098 S and the 2008 Buell 1125R.
