Bike Profile
The KTM 690 Duke is a naked bike – and in 2008, it got some extra muscle. The LC4 engine has more power this year, in part due to an airbox and exhaust system that helps pump the peak horse power to 65 at 7500 rpm. If you want to be the one that can take the curves better than the best, this bike is for you.The liquid-cooled LC4 engine crams 39.91 (654 ccm) cubic inches in a single cylinder. It is fueled by a carburetor, and the single overhead cam feeds the engine with fuel and air. It puts out 49.4 (67.00 Nm) foot pounds of torque at 5500 rpm. This is a four-stroke bike, so it runs on straight fuel rather than a gas/oil mixture. All this power is backed up by a six-speed transmission with an APTC wet, multi-disc hydraulic clutch.
The front suspension uses WP USD forks with 7.9 inches of travel and the rear uses a WP monoshock with 8.3 inches of travel. Both front and rear brakes use a single disc – the front disc is 12.6 inches, the rear is 8.7 inches.
The KTM 690 Duke weighs in at 327 pounds (dry) and has 6.1 inches of ground clearance. The seat height is 34.1 inches. If the seat is adjustable, this is the lowest setting. The chassis is a powder coated chromium-molybdenum trellis frame. The exhaust uses a stainless steel underfloor muffler with an integrated catalytic converter. The fuel tank holds 3.57 gallons.
Comparison bikes are the 2006 Buell Blast, 2006 Kawasaki Z 750 S, 2006 Honda 919 and the 2006 Ducati Monster 620 Dark.
