Bike Profile

Classic looks, enjoyable, reliable riding and easy handling make the Suzuki GS1000 a vintage motorcycle for everybody. The bike was produced between 1978 and 1981. All were sporty body types with various levels of fairing and grips. The standard bike was a naked version especially great for beginners because dumping it wouldn't result in the need for expensive plastic replacement. The 1981 model (year code - X) was the only GS with an eight valve engine for smoother power.

The 997cc air cooled engine produces 90 horsepower at 8,200 rpm with a maximum 136.1 miles per hour (219.0 km/h). It is a smooth machine that gives 8.5 kg-m at 6,500 rpm. The Suzuki GS1000 is a heavyweight tourer at 562.2 pounds (255.0 kg) but still manages to be controllable although its 31.5 inch (800 mm) seat height combined with the weight of this bike can make it a bit hard for smaller riders to handle.

It has great distance capabilities with a 5.28 gallon (20 litre) fuel tank that gets 35 miles per gallon so it will go all day but its seating can be a bit hard on a rider for such long rides.

Advantages: Great beginner bike that is low maintenance and easy to control. Plenty of power and rides smooth. Naked version recovers well from minor dumps. Classic bike that is a great addition to any collection.

Disadvantages: Riding position is a little too aggressive for long distances and is hard on the back and wrists. A little bit large and heavy for smaller riders.
