An out of this world look gave the Suzuki Katana 1100 an unusual following, and mixed responses amongst the devoted superbikers of its time. Entering the market in the early 80's it had stiff competition to deal with and more conservatively styled bikes to overcome. Overcome it did, however because it handles beautifully even if it does bear a striking resemblance to an alien spacecraft. It has an almost insect look about it—a very big insect. It is that aerodynamic styling that gives it such grace however. It is a shame that Suzuki bowed to the objections of an unconventional look in its following models because sometimes being different is a good thing.A big 1100cc engine is mounted in the belly of this fast and powerful bike. While it has room for a passenger, forget it, this is not a bike for dual pleasures. It doesn't even have a place for a passenger to hang on. The Suzuki Katana 1100 is a road hog meant to tear up the pavement and it does that great. It is aggressive in its seating and a bit hard on the wrists but that is what keeps the rider in such great position for stable deep twists.
The Suzuki Katana 1100 is a bike for the very serious speed lover. Anyone looking for a stroll through the countryside while they smell the flowers needs to look somewhere else; there won't be any time for smelling flowers on this speedster.
Advantages: Excellent advanced level supersport bike. Great control and power.
Disadvantages: Front brakes are great but rear brakes are less responsive especially on wet pavement. A clumsy choke position.
