Bike Profile

The Suzuki SV650 started in 1999 as a great cheap way to get into the naked bike scene that was sweeping the biking world. It came in two models, completely stripped down naked, and the fully faired 'S' version. The faired model looked a lot like a modern sport bike, while the naked version was a street bike through and through. This early bike was often referred to in later years as a 'curvy' due to its sleek curved lines, especially in the nose of the bike, that differentiated it from later models in 2003 that came to be known as 'pointies'.

The SV650 in both versions has a 649cc 4-stroke liquid cooled engine that produces 71 horsepower (53kw) at 9,300 rpm. Some fluctuation through the years produced a degree less, and up to almost two degrees more with the 2004 models giving up to 72.5 horsepower. 46.8 to 47.2 pounds (62 to 65nm) of torque at 7,400 to 7,500 rpms gives it a solid power for heavy duty riding. The chassis style changed a bit over the duration of the model from an oval tube trellis to a truss frame but they were all made of a lightweight aluminum alloy that made a big looking bike lighter and easier to handle. The seat height is about 31.7 inches (805mm) giving it a nice height that feels above the ride and very comfortable to sit for average sized riders.

Able to hit 100 miles per hour in just 9.94 seconds the Suzuki SV650 has a lot of jump and can do a quarter mile in 12.04 seconds at 107.22 mph.

Advantages: Great naked street bike with lots of power that is very stable and controllable.

Disadvantages: Earlier models had some failings when road especially hard.
