For the smaller or lighter rider who wants a dual purpose on/off road bike the Yamaha XT 225 is a great fit. It is powerful enough for any dirt riding although may lack some on the pavement it can still garner up to 70 miles per hour with an experienced lightweight rider on its back. Tuck down out of the wind and you can even edge out an additional 5 or so mph. While it may not win a stretch run it can leave many heavier bikes on the twisties. The Yamaha XT 225 is perfect for ladies who want to enjoy biking sports and road trips too.The single cylinder 4 stroke engine is rather large for a beginner bike but it is easily controlled by most riders and its smaller size makes it a bike even shorter riders can plant their feet on. The 2.3 gallon (9 litre) fuel tank keeps it going for miles and the upright seat position makes those miles comfortable to ride.
For nature lovers it is an excellent trail bike, probably even unmatched in its ability. While not powerful enough for big time sporting enduro riders it is a nice and gentle dirt tail bike that will give you hours of pleasure cruising along the paths.
Advantages: Excellent beginner's dirt bike that smaller riders will enjoy. Plenty of power for both on and off road work.
Disadvantages: Too small for very large riders. Not as fast as a sports bike and not equipped for hard sporting in the dirt.
