It is friendly enough for nearly any beginner who has the patience to take it slow until they get their bearings in the dirt. It has the power to please any advanced rider. It is an excellent motocross play bike. The super 449cc engine has enough boost to get it through any mud situation quickly and spring it into the air over hills with grace. The advanced suspension system is perfect for just about any rider and those beginners taking it slow will especially love it. Advanced riders traveling at top speeds and jumping at maximum height may find the suspension soggy but it is still plenty serviceable for a fun ride. It is a bike that can give any rider from beginner to advanced a lot of confidence from its lightweight handling to its stability.

Completely soaked it weighs in at 238 pounds which is a bit heavier than lighter model bikes and can make it more difficult for very young riders to handle but it has the strength and weight to handle harsh courses and jumps without buckling from the pressure and its big engine gives it a torquey fast speed.

The Yamaha YZ 450 has fantastic stopping power but can be a bit catchy if traveling fast in a sudden stop. It can take a little getting used to but once a rider has a feel for it, they will adore it's active desire to hit the dirt.
